Making Connections

The journey hasn’t really begun yet.

I booked the 7am flight out of Atlanta because I don’t know the Detroit airport very well, and I wanted to make sure I had a nice, long layover. As it happened, this got me to the gate almost 3 hours ahead of time for the 12:30pm flight to Nagoya. The first flight let us out in the same terminal from which my second flight will soon be leaving. The walk from A-something to A54 took all of 9 minutes.

That said, making connections isn’t always that easy. Sometimes, making connections takes time.

Can you tell we’re not talking about planes anymore?

Now that I’m taking off on this year-long (or longer) journey way way out of my comfort zone, it’s important to remember that I’m not going to feel comfortable all at once. Like with catching a connecting flight, I have to give myself a reasonable amount of time to get used to living in a new place and working in a new job with new people.

FINGERS CROSSED that making connections in Takaoka will be as unexpectedly quick and easy as getting from one Terminal A gate to another…but you gotta plan on some things going less than smoothly.

Wish me luck!
