Staying up to date in this industry is an incredible challenge.
I try to keep up with the trends by following Advertising Age and Adweek on Twitter, but it takes more than that to be truly involved with the most important ideas in advertising and marketing. I can’t just skim a few articles each week and expect to have a good understanding of the industry.
Last week, I went with a small group of students from UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication to visit some of the biggest and best PR firms and advertising agencies in New York City, a major hub for the industry. That is how to keep up with trends. That is how to know what’s going on in the industry.
Is it important to follow blogs and publications about advertising and marketing? Yes.
Am I genuinely passionate about the subject if I don’t also engage my mind by responding to these articles? Probably not.
